Extremely inconsiderate, unclear, and gives extreme work loads for a regular english class. I have never heard one good word about mrs. olson and you havent taught me a thing except stress, and how to absolutely hate a book and a teacher. Has no regards to your feelings or outside life.

Actually, I don't totally mind a teacher being picky with grading, as long as they have a sound reason why (i.e. they gave a really simple task, reviewed specifics of the assignment and A-level, B-level, C-level samples during class, or provided office hours for one-on-one feedback throughout the project, etc.) Bottom line: it's acceptable to have a high expectation for your students--but only if you've *already* given them the tools to achieve that standard. However, it's always unfair when a teacher can't explain their own grading. Not only is it unreasonable--in certain instances, it's pretty inconsiderate. Take, for instance, an honors setting. In advanced classes, kids pour truckloads of effort into their assignments to please you--why can't you put some effort into evaluating their work?

Mr. James Englerth

Rating: 5 out of 5.

There's so much vitriol on this site, so let me share something positive. I had Mr. Englerth, and I was going through an extremely difficult, complex situation outside of school. As a result, I went from getting straight A-pluses--to scrambling just to pass all my classes. He tried his best to understand what I had to endure and how it harmed me. I cannot overstate that a lot of this was PERSONAL STUFF--not ANYTHING guidance counselors usually deal with. Moreover, he always appreciated the courage it took for me to share that with him. He was extremely supportive. He cared about me; he wanted me to heal, and he wanted me to get back on track academically. Honestly, he didn't always know how to help me do that, but he tried as hard as he possibly could. To reiterate, this was an incredibly complicated situation, so I couldn't have expected anyone to have the answers! I didn't even unpack everything until about six months ago. Any questionable decisions Mr. Englerth and I made are only regrettable in hindsight. Really, he tried. As hard as humanely possible. (Were this any less of a complex situation, his advice probably would have been spot on.) Mr. Englerth, if you see this, this is exactly who you think it is. I'm in a safe place now. Because of what happened in high school, I'm still working to transfer to what you might consider a good college--but I found a realistic track to do it, and a Plan B JUST in case it doesn't. Plan A is going smoothly though. :) Thank you for letting me spontaneously walk in your office to have a conversation whenever you could be available. Your honesty, selflessness, and unwavering willingness to listen were WELL beyond your job description. It's unfortunate you only knew me when I was suffering so much though. I hope one day, we can catch up, and you'll get to see a stronger version of me. Until then, keep being empathetic; keep offering your honest insight, and keep being yourself. You matter more than you realize.

She is a coldhearted woman. She has no remorse for her students and does not care about their well-being or their grade and honestly does not want them to do well in her class. She will not take your accommodations and she will not care about any of your personal or emotional issues. Every single one of her students is so extremely discouraged by her and I have never heard a good word. She leaves no room for improvement for herself though students have tried. She treats her normal classes like AP classes and gives them the same workload with no credit for AP. Thank God I don’t have her anymore I would’ve literally switched schools. I asked my counselor on multiple occasions to do anything to get me out and they wouldn’t. She is so extremely unreasonable and gives 10 minutes for students to complete 30 problems that take a long time to comprehend. She grades so harshly and so extreme that it’s almost unfair, and I’ve never felt more discouraged by a teacher in my life. I don’t know how she is still a teacher she made my mental health suffer so much, I hope that she gets fired and the school sees her issues. She is terrible to her students and the work is absolutely ridiculous.

I had Mr. Englerth's wife for my English class. The bluntness fits her writing style. Plus, she would refer to him by first name. Look, Mrs. Englerth or whomever you are, I do not mean to disrespect Mr. Englerth, but someone is not automatically a "dreamer" or "pothead" because they do not fully agree with how he counsels. If you are Mrs. Englerth, since you teach English, you would understand the importance of expressing oneself freely and truly.
