Some reviewers are hurling super inappropriate remarks at Mr. Englerth; other reviewers are sharing (hopefully authentic) personal experiences, and others are bashing people simply for critiquing him. I can confirm that he is not "pompous" or malicious or any of these horrible adjectives that the haters in the first camp are throwing at him. However, the people saying he discouraged them from their ambitions might have a point. I do not think they're "snowflakes who should work at Taco Bell," as some people in the last group I described are saying. I, for one, was advised not to enter several AP classes, even though my teachers recommended me for them, and now, I really regret listening to Mr. Englerth. AP Lang, APUSH, and AP Lit could have taken my writing skills to another level. Not to mention, they would have improved my college application. Not saying they would have gotten me into friggin' NYU or the like, but they would've helped with admissions to other mid-to-high tier colleges and scholarships. Which matter. Obviously, it is ultimately my fault for placing too much trust in one guy, but his job literally is guidance, and in my case, he did not guide me properly. Super kind though. He seems pretty humble, so if people would stop trolling him, he might actually hear them out and become a better guidance counselor. Just my opinion. :)

Realism is valid, but a true idealist bases ideals on their reality, and likewise, a realist acts pragmatically based on their ideals. There is no firm dichotomy. The dichotomy is between shallow and innovative thinking. For instance, a shallow realist would never venture to use ideals that enable the most logical decisions. Therefore, they would not be acting as a true "realist," and obviously, they would miss idealistic thought processes as well. That could be why people have issues with Mr. Englerth--he might think too shallowly to provide solutions which are truly rational (realistic) and creative (idealistic). On the contrary, an innovative problem solver could combine idealism and realism. Just my humble opinion. :)

Let me rephrase. Mr. Englerth is a realist. Obviously, this is a problem for dreamers and potheads...and the people no one imagines anything of who COULD grow to accomplish the things no one can imagine.

No stankova sh*t here...just an average gc. The best of em are still stupid...whaddaya expect?! Counseling isn't even a real degree. The programs are so goddamn easy that even the people who are f*cked up enough to need intensive counseling end up as counselors. He's not even a friggin' therapist; he's a guidance counselor. That requires about the most sh*tty excuse for a degree you can imagine. The girl's deal is low-key sad, but kid, you ain't that smart if you trust a friggin' GUIDANCE COUNSELOR with your important life decisions. Maybe they can give you some stats on college admissions from your high school...that's about all they're useful for. That "talk to trusted adults" crap is just to make sure little kids tell their parents and teachers about the pedophile from the van who tried to coerce 'em wit' blowpops n' blowjobs. You're an older teenager or an adult by now. You've gotta take charge of your own ish't. Don't pay no mind to what some busted, crusted, disgusted counselor thinks. I'm barely smarter than your average motherf*cker, and I manage to get my crap together. Why can't a bright kid like you do it too? Sorry for the rant. I'm just so pissed at the stupidity on here. No, he's not the "best guidance counselor in New York," but he's not a toxic bs artist either.
