Mrs. Muoio, Pittsford Mendon High School, Pittsford, NY
Her ableism is shocking, especially considering that she is open about having mental issues such as body dysmorphia. She pretends to care about mental health but comes to school with a pessimistic attitude (unless there is another adult in the room) and constantly criticizes her students, invalidating them constantly. Above all, her feigned empathy is disgusting.

I am so grateful to escape her hellish class! Her misanthropic decision to teach only pessimistic literature made her students' lives exceedingly difficult—as if a pandemic was not enough to get through. In addition, her insensitive, sometimes vulgar language and pretentious demeanor made the class unapproachable and stifled student participation. For instance, she randomly exclaimed, "I no longer enjoy coming to my job" and called the entire class "annoying" for needing extra time to answer a single question. She loved to flaunt that she went to a prestigious college, though she thought it was fine to call her fellow students "a**holes" in front of the whole class! Moreover, she offered no clear guidelines for assignments, no rubric, no metric, nothing to help you revise and edit your work. Though one of the worst parts of her teaching was her grading. She deducted points whenever "she felt it was necessary," even though they were impossible to justify because she gave no rubric. The level of mistake and amount she took off for varied widely from assignment to assignment (no, not gradually stricter grading throughout the year to help students grow). Well, Mrs. "I die" (literally what her name means in Italian), I look forward to a year with a kinder, less narcissistic teacher, and I cannot wait for every student you were unfair to to shove their successes (that they accomplished in spite of you) right in your face full of clownish make-up.

Mrs. Muoio, 472 Mendon Rd, Pittsford, NY 14534 (Pittsford Mendon High School)
Mrs. Muoio has an incredible passion for her subject, gives excellent lectures, and challenges us with thought-provoking prompts to help us deeply analyze literature--and apply it to our lives. She is genuine, always sharing her honest interpretations of literature, but she does not force her opinions upon us. Moreover, she guides many student-run extracurriculars (e.g. Newspaper Club, TEDX at MHS, Black Student Union) to amplify our voices in school. The only challenge in this class is the lack of a rubric or consistent metric to assess our work. It is sometimes difficult to understand why Mrs. Muoio deducts a certain number of points, making it difficult to correlate our grades to our understanding of English. Despite this problem, Mrs. Muoio still remains an outstanding teacher--and person--certainly deserving of five stars! :)

Mrs. Muoio is an insightful teacher who offers in-depth analyses of whatever literature she teaches. Although, this is undermined by her grading methodology. She offers no rubric, no clear set of expectations, no justification as to why she grades the way she does—even if you ask her for it. Moreover, she deducts points arbitrarily, seemingly whenever she pleases. For instance, I earned a perfect score on a paper with an obvious citation error but lost many points for an MLA 8th edition citation convention she never mentioned in class once. (When I politely approached her about it after class, she described the convention as "archaic"—but proceeded to take off credit.) Unfortunately, I am far from the only one to have experienced this. My friend, whose best subject is English, earned her lowest grade in English sophomore year because of this teacher's "scary grading." All her former students seem to share this story. She also loved to boast that she attended a prestigious university. With her obscure, random grading and I-can-do-whatever-I-feel-like-because-I have-the-Master's-Degree attitude, she erodes her students' confidence in their writing abilities, making them feel dim-witted, voiceless, and powerless. That is highly ironic and disappointing coming from the advisor of our school newspaper.

Despite her extensive knowledge of English, her behavior is immature, making her class painful. She gains pleasure from deriding others. After her class, I needed a therapist to process the self-doubt she had caused. (To improve her emotional wellness, she needs a therapist as well.) Even my guidance counselor said that if I ever get a teacher like her again, I should drop the course!

So why don't you do something about it. end it.
She makes you feel that life is meaningless.
